HOW IT WORKS....

MOA's Member Welcome Wings Hospitality Listings:
welcome wagonsm.jpg (7199 bytes)Think of it as kind of a "Welcome Wagon with Wings..."This most unique MOA membership feature is a listing of fellow MOA Members and Mooney owners (Mooniacs) who may be willing to provide help, advice, or local assistance concerning your needs when traveling.  Nearly everyone of us has experienced traveling needs perhaps arising from WX delays or mechanical problems related AOG, moamooniac02.jpg (12915 bytes)(Aircraft On Ground) situation resulting in a "stranded pilot" problems etc.
An addition, it is also a unique collection of fellow MOA Mooniac family members who may provide transportation to a good place to spend the night or perhaps even   welcome you into their homes and may even be upset if you don't call when in the neighborhood".

For simplicity, in our e-directory we group the level of assistance "Welcome Wings" (Welcome Wagon) participating members are usually able to provide into 3 basic categories:

welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)1)   Local Recommendations, Advice, and/or AOG (Aircraft On Ground) "Problematic Help or Assistance":
Members who welcome you to call if you need some type of local recommendations, advice, or help but are usually somewhat limited to providing "pilot stranded", problematic, or AOG" assistance.
Generally, this means that generally they do not have the resources the free time available to do much beyond providing necessary friendly local advice and assistance or possibly (if circumstances allow), they may be able to provide a lift into town etc.   Local advice can simply mean such as a much needed recommendation on where to stay, things to do, or where to dine as well as where (and how) to find a local "Mooney smart" (after hours)  mechanic etc.  Many times, such advice and assistance all we really want and need.  These folks want you to call them if you are in the neighborhood and you feel the need.

welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)2)  Possible Local Transportation and Pro-active or "hands on" Assistance:
Members who are usually equipped, have the time, and able to provide more "active" or "hands-on" assistance.
This could mean that their lifestyle or personality is more adventuresome and they relish good "I learned about flying my Mooney from that" stories that you may offer and usually they would love to provide a ride to & from town, perhaps the use of a spare car, or even more; depending on specific circumstances etc.  Usually, these folks have more time to direct and even take you around locally etc.  Some perhaps, would make a good dining guide or guest at a favorite local eatery etc.

welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)welcomewagonicon01.jpg (1775 bytes)3)  Local  Assistance, Transportation, and Possible Guest or "Spare Bedroom" Hospitality/Accommodations:
Those members who usually can and desire to meet most any fellow Mooney owner who comes through and they are usually willing to provide transportation, and/or even a guest bedroom
.   Many of these members may live in a popular destination or resort type area and/or their lifestyle allows them to meet most of your "home away from home" needs if you find yourself in their neighborhood.  Usually, (but not always) these members may be equipped to handle guests via accommodations ranging from a simple "guest bedroom" to a full guest accommodations or suite.  Members who choose to list themselves here, usually are those who welcome the novelty of fellow Mooney owners dropping in from time to time and may even be disappointed if you don't at least call when in town or nearby!

Welcome Wings Hospitality Notes and Recommendations
welcome wagonsm.jpg (7199 bytes)
Please keep in mind that members who register here as "Welcome Wing" Members have personal situations and travel schedules etc, which are subject to change.  What may be convenient and welcome when they signed up for "Welcome Wings", or for one week, (for example) may not be convenient the next, and so on.  Please be understanding and flexible when contacting Welcome Wing Members.

Suggestions: Normally, when first contacting a Welcome Wing Member, we suggest you simply ask for "local recommendations" as to where to stay and dine, where to find a good mechanic etc., and let them sort of take it from there.  If things proceed satisfactorily and as always, appropriate consideration or "payment" may range from a simple "thank you", to "dinner out" with you picking up the check.  On some occasions, some MOA Members have formal spare rooms or guest quarters or may even operate rental income properties where charges may be appropriate.

As always, don't just assume that the other MOA Member is at your (UN-announced) beacon call.   If at all possible, please call or e mail first to introduce yourself and advise of your travel schedule, needs, etc., and get to know your fellow Welcome Wings Mooniac prior to landing on their runway/doorstep.  By in large, the folks who have signed-up for Welcome Wings, are the adventuresome type who expect you to at least call if you ever are in the neighborhood.
